Tree! with Cec, Yas, Jweg, Katherine… (Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree)
28th Birthday
I was planning on having a birthday party. I wanted it to be something like a pot-luck plus movie/games and drinking. When Rich couldn’t make it, the pot-luck was off and eventually I decided to scrap the party (it’s so hard to get people together on the same date, so much work, etc). Well it worked out much better anyway :)
A day or two before the 7th, I was thinking to myself that I wished I knew someone with a dog I could borrow. Magically, the evening of the 6th, I found out that my new friend who works next door at Building on Bond was dog-sitting for friends and had a shift at the restaurant all day on the 7th and I could borrow the pupster for the day!
I met her in the morning for coffee and to pickup Scout. Pooch and I walked to Prospect Park for some relaxing and some playing with other dogs. After a walking- and sun-induced nap, we met back up with her actual sitter at Building for a quick drink. Best birthday in years.
As you can see above, I also got a cake at work and Cecily gave me flowers!
And here is Scout taking forever to lie down. This is just the very end of the process, she took like 45-60 sec total :)
Giving Thanks Late
I am thankful for:
- My family’s support, particularly all the money they’ve poured into me to finance my education and my expenses while I was a slave to Neil’s and my startup venture, Celery.
- My amazing job, employer and coworkers. They pay me way more than I’m worth, provide amazing benefits and support me through my ridiculous illness.
- My comfortable lifestyle, provided by # 1 and 2. I love my apartment and spending money on making it exactly what I want it to be. I love my cozy, safe, yuppie neighborhood.
- My doctors, who are 1,000 times more attentive and caring than the average.
- My life without Crohn’s* I get to have now, thanks to the surgery I just had and #4.
I often feel like I’m wasting all of this though… just waiting around for something to happen… puttering, killing time. :/
*there is still a chance it can come back in a different place, but my doctors say it’s very unlikely
my BFF Amanda visited me for Memorial Day weekend. We went to Prospect Park and used the peddle boats. We kept it classy. We had a good time.
I’m a block away from this massive pillow fight on wall st, stuck in class :(
n^n
No, that’s not some anime smily-face. Today I turned n^n for the last time.
- 1 (baby)
- 4 (stupid kid)
- 27 (today!)
- 256 (unlikely!)
To celebrate, I’m going to get pissed watching movies with some friends. Present-wise, I didn’t want anything, but my dad bought me two books I guess I blogged about some time ago. They’re both going to be awesome!!
This first one is a beautiful book 100% full of one-page diagrams illustrating basic facts, principles, taxonomies, laws, timelines, etc. Mmmm so tasty, it’s like bite-size infoporn I’m going to pour over this one like I did with American Homes.
The second one I remember less about. It’s a book about “solving problems and selling ideas with pictures.” I’ve never been that great at “back of the envelope” calculations so the problem solving part might be useful, but I am pretty good at small, quick diagrams to explain concepts. Whether or not I learn anything, I’ll definitely geek out on it.
I also have an iTunes gift card leftover from xmas shopping bonanza, so I think I’ll give myself that.
lent
Lent is a joke. people give up dumb stuff. you’re supposed to give up food and drink BEER instead. That said, I’m an atheist, so totally discount anything I say about religion :)
lfar:
This may sound strange, but I’m giving up content aggregation services for Lent. That means that (except for this post), I won’t be looking at my Tumblr dashboard, and I won’t be using my RSS reader. I may still visit individual tumblelogs to see what’s going on.
See you in April!
Okay but WHY? Does RSS use constitute a bad habit now?
