My coworker Tyler recently started a series of posts on how to get a job with our employer, Fog Creek Software. If you’re curious why anyone would care, you can tell the level of awesomeness of where I work from a mere TWO pictures.
ps- we just shipped FogBugz 7.0 and that called for a group photo and a fancy dinner (lunch) with live jazz and champagne :)
This past Saturday, my buddy, Christine asked me along to a party her Stanford buddies were throwing. They host these “Special Dinners” which I guess are more Drunky Drunkfests than dinners, but there was tasty food, and it WAS special… so you know. This one was “Gates of Hell” themed since the place is on Gates street.
I focused much more on drinking than on photographing but here are a few choice shots:
The wackiest thing was that at least three people there know of / were interns at Fog Creek and know a couple of my coworkers. Small world. See all the pictures here. The last three in the album are from when Christine and I took the show on the road to my friend Laurie’s friend’s party.
Today marks my one-year anniversary with Fog Creek. Yay!

Saturday: Finished class for the semester. Gave two presentations and turned in two papers (gave a presentation and turned in two other papers last Wednesday). When I got home, I took a nap for two hours. My friends Will from RPI was visiting and I didn’t know if we were meeting up that night and if he’d need to stay at my place, so I needed to stay awake. If I stayed home, I would definitely go to bed at 10 and I hadn’t heard back, so I went with Katrina to a party literally two blocks from my place. We didn’t stay long because I was pooped and she didn’t want a late night either, but it was long enough to find out that Will was staying with our mutual friend, Tristan, whom he was also visiting.
Sunday: Had a surprise reunion of my sophomore year dorm-mates Will, Tristan and Ariel (and his fiancee) for brunch at good enough to eat on the upper west side. Ate tasty turkey hash, potatoes, poached eggs and biscuits with strawberry butter. From there, we walked through central park. We saw flowers and then stopped at the bridge over The Lake and made fun of the boaters for ages and ages. We had stupid conversations including discussing the practice of taking a turtle out for a walk because you’re THAT rich and ain’t got shit to do. We then coined the expression “walking the turtle” to mean any activity that’s a complete waste of time just because you can. Like making fun of boaters for hours.
From there we walked south past the fountain where we saw a (very good) string quintet playing, on down the mall past other interesting sites, down to the southeast corner of the park. From there we all took the train down to Union Square and had “snack” at Max Brenner, home of the infamous chocolate syringe. The place was amazing, anything with chocolate you can imagine, and their non-chocolate dinner menu looked good too! I can’t imagine going and wasting room on non-chocolate, though.. :P After that, Ariel and his fiancee left for home and Will, Tristan and I went to Tristan’s place. There, I played Rock Band for the first time and now understand what all the hubub is about. I suck and it’s still fun!
Monday: Back to work, where we started the beta test for the latest version of our main product and my work coordinating that ramped up. Now I get to divide my time between the beta, the simultaneous plugin developer alpha (nevermind, you why and how beta and alpha are at the same time), a pricing study and of course my pathetic attempts to have a social life while also being in school and going steadily mad.
For April Fool’s, someone switched all the chairs in the office around and even moved our whole small conference room into David’s office :)

Wrapped up a week of jury duty that I’m not supposed to talk about (mwaaahaha I bet you’re curious. Hint: it was a murder trial!) and picked my sister, Emily at JFK from her flight from Germany (where she lives). It took an hour to get there, but it was really easy. Yay MTA. Set her up on my awesome futon.
My one-day work-week. I spent the whole day on busywork catching up on stuff even though MHP was kind enough to process POs for me while I was out. Had a couple of meetings:
That evening, the Mom arrived and we went out to a Chinese/Japanese restaurant on Smith Street, Chance. We took a chance (har har) and it wasn’t great. I had a lychee martini, so I was happy.
Thanks to earplugs, both mom and sis slept well on the queen-size futon. Thanks to Fog Creek leftovers by Neuman’s and Emily’s multi-skillet talent, we had tasty baby spinach, bacon, asparagus and bleu/feta cheese omlets. MMMmmmm Emily can come cook for me ANY time :)
We spent the morning walking around 5th and 7th aves in Park Slope and had a nice lunch at 200 Fifth. Em and Mom peaced out to go see 33 Variations. Emily’s using “writing a paper about it” as an excuse to see it again. I did laundry and napped.
When they got back, we had a delicious dinner at Moutarde on 5th ave in Park Slope. It was soooo good and we were happy that the place called “mustard” gave us 4 kinds of mustard and veggie stix to stick in ‘em as a snackie. Great atomosphere and authentic cute french girl working there = ++.
Got up earlyish again, I filled some of the time before brunch at Bar Tabac started at 10 by cutting my hair (yes, it’s supposed to look messy). At brunch we all had: coffee, mimosa, salad, home-fries, poached eggs on english muffins with Ham(Emily), Smoked Salmon(Adam), Spinach(Mom) and shared Tuna Tartare. So tasty.
